About Us

We are a friendly but competitive badminton club based in Crowthorne, Berkshire.

We play at the Wellington Health and Fitness Club (which is located within the grounds of Wellington College), have about 35 members and alongside a busy and friendly club night, we run men’s, mixed and ladies’ teams in the Aldershot & Camberley District League

Our club nights are on Wednesday (from 7:30pm to 10:30pm) and we have four courts in all. If there is a match on during the evening, the club night players will still have two or three courts available for the club night. FAQ

When and where do we play?

We play on Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm to 10:30pm. Many members don’t arrive until 8pm, so if you are coming along as a visitor for the first time, it is suggested you arrive at 8pm. We play right through the year. We do lose the occasional evening if Christmas or New Year fall around a Wednesday or if the college are using the hall (this is very rare).

We can be found at the Wellington Health and Fitness Club which is in the grounds of Wellington College. There are good showers and, thankfully, a sports bar. The badminton is played in an excellent sports hall which houses eight courts. We have four courts throughout the season.

Directions to the Wellington Health and Fitness Club can be found here.

What standard do we play?

We play a good competitive level of ladies’, men’s and mixed doubles. We have teams at various levels of the Aldershot and Camberley league and the Bracknell league. We are looking for members who have the potential to play in one of these teams. You may have relatively little experience or it could be some time since you played, but if you have the potential, that is what counts.

How much does it cost to join?

Members pay by monthly standing order. This is currently £22 per month for men and £18 per month for women, reviewed annually. This pays for courts, shuttles and it also covers affiliation to the local leagues and Badminton England. If you end up playing matches (and we hope you do), then we currently charge an additional £2 for each match you play.

Under-18s and full-time students under 21 can take advantage of junior membership, which is £10 per month. Alternatively, university students can take out university membership, which costs £10 per month but only allows these members to attend club nights during the university holiday periods.

Do we have lots of rules and regulations?

We try to keep things relatively informal, but like most clubs, we have a committee, a constitution and a child protection policy (as we welcome members who are under 18). We have a ‘peg’ system for picking matches during the club night and this provides members with a variety of games over the evening.

If you are interested, you can download the club constitution and the child protection policy.

Do we only play doubles?

As a club, we usually only play doubles (both level and mixed). If you want to play mainly singles, then we are probably not the club for you. However, if you want to play the odd singles game towards the end of a club night when the courts are less busy, that is fine.
